What are the advantages and disadvantages of fully welded ball valves?
Fully welded ball valves are a common type of valve with the following advantages and disadvantages:
一、Advantages
1、Good sealing performance: the fully welded ball valve adopts a metal sealing structure between the ball and the valve seat, which has excellent sealing performance and can effectively prevent media leakage. At the same time, the welded connection eliminates the possible leakage points of flange connection or threaded connection, further improving the overall sealing, suitable for occasions with strict requirements on leakage, such as gas transmission pipelines, petrochemical and other industries.
2、Strong corrosion resistance: the ball and seat are usually made of stainless steel, alloy steel and other corrosion-resistant materials, and the welding process can make the valve surface to form a continuous protective film, effectively resisting the erosion of a variety of corrosive media, so in some of the harsh working environment, such as the pipeline system containing corrosive media such as acid and alkali, fully welded ball valves have a long service life.
3、Large circulation capacity: when the ball of the fully welded ball valve is open, the medium channel is almost unobstructed, and the aperture of its flow path is equal to the inner diameter of the pipeline, so the fluid can pass through unobstructed, so it has a large circulation capacity, which can reduce the pressure loss of the pipeline system and improve the conveying efficiency, and it is especially suitable for large flow rate of fluid conveying occasions such as urban water supply, heat supply and other systems.
4、Good fire resistance: the welded structure of the fully welded ball valve allows it to maintain good structural integrity in case of fire and other emergencies, reducing the risk of media leakage and fire spread due to valve damage. At the same time, its metal material itself has certain fireproof performance, can withstand high temperature environment within a certain period of time, providing valuable time for fire fighting and emergency treatment.

二、Disadvantages
1、Maintenance difficulties: the welded structure of all-welded ball valves makes it more difficult to repair in case of failure. If the internal components such as the ball, seat and other damage, usually need to cut the entire valve from the pipeline for repair or replacement, which requires professional welding equipment and technicians, and the repair process is more complex, time-consuming, will have a greater impact on the normal operation of the pipeline system.
2、Higher cost: the manufacturing process of all-welded ball valves is relatively complex, requiring the use of high-quality materials and advanced welding technology, so its manufacturing cost is higher. In addition, due to its maintenance difficulties, once a failure occurs, the cost of replacing the valve is also higher, which makes the overall use of all-welded ball valves relatively high cost, in some cost-sensitive applications, may be subject to certain limitations.
3、Higher weight: All-welded ball valves are usually made of metal and have a relatively heavy overall weight due to their structural design and welding requirements. This requires the use of specialised equipment and tools during installation and transport, increasing the difficulty and cost of installation and transport. Especially in some high altitude or narrow space installation occasions, heavier valves may cause inconvenience to the construction.
4、Large operating torque: the sealing force between the ball and the seat of the all-welded ball valve is large, so operation requires a large torque to open and close the valve. This requires a larger power drive device, such as electric actuators or pneumatic actuators, increasing equipment investment and operating costs. At the same time, the larger operating torque may also impose a certain burden on the operator, requiring greater force during manual operation.
