The common forms of flange sealing surface have plane flange、convex and concave flange、tongue and groove flange.
1、Plane flange
The sealing surface of this kind of flange is a smooth plane, sometimes also in the sealing surface is processed with two interfaces for the triangle concentric circle groove (commonly known as the waterline).
Due to the simple structure and easy processing, it is convenient for the construction of anticorrosive lining, but this sealing surface has a large contact area with the gasket (especially wide-face flange for pipeline), the required compression force is large, and the gasket is not suitable for positioning during installation. After pre-tensioning, the gasket is easy to stretch or move to both sides.
Convex flange belongs to a kind of plane flange.
2、Convex and concave flange
The sealing surface of this flange consists of a concave surface and a convex surface, the gasket is placed in the concave surface, compared with the plane flange, the gasket in the concave-convex surface flange is not easy to be extruded, it is easy to be aligned when assembling, and the range of working pressure is wider than that of the plane flange, which is used in the occasions of the sealing requirements are more stringent. However, for equipment with high operating temperature and large sealing diameter, there is still a possibility that the gasket will be extruded when using this kind of sealing surface.
3、Tongue and groove face flange
The sealing surface of the flange consists of a tongue and groove surface and a groove surface to match, the gasket is placed in the groove, as with the concave and convex surface flange, the tongue and groove surface flange will not be extruded in the groove, the compression area is minimum (only 52-68% of the plane flange and the concave and convex surface flange), and the gasket is subjected to uniform force. As the gasket and the medium is not in direct contact, the medium corrosive influence and pressure mechanism of the infiltration of the influence of the minimum, can be used for high-pressure, flammable, explosive, toxic media and other sealing requirements of strict occasions. This sealing surface gasket installation in good alignment, the sealing surface processing and gasket replacement is more difficult.
