How to Install Stainless Steel Flanges

Stainless steel flanges are essentially disc-shaped components commonly employed in pipework systems, always utilised in pairs. Within pipework engineering, flanges serve primarily to connect pipes and are extensively applied across various industrial sectors including petrochemicals, food processing, metallurgy, construction, and power generation. So how are loose-fitting stainless steel flanges installed?

Within pipework engineering, flanges serve primarily to connect pipes and are extensively applied across various industrial sectors including petrochemicals, food processing, metallurgy, construction, and power generation. So how are loose-fitting stainless steel flanges installed?

1. Prior to connection, thoroughly clean any contaminants from the interior and exterior surfaces of the stainless steel pipes or fittings;

2. Fit a flange disc with a grooved ring onto each pipe to be connected;

3. Perform a 90° flanging process on both pipe ends. Grind the flanged surfaces to ensure they are perpendicular, flat, free of burrs, and without any unevenness or deformation. Use specialised tools to round the pipe ends;

4. Alternatively, use pre-flanged short pipes welded onto the pipes;

5. Insert stainless steel sealing rings fitted with O-ring seals into the flanges with grooved rings. The inner diameter of the sealing rings must match the pipe's internal diameter, ensuring concentric alignment;

6. Connect the flanges via bolt holes, tightening the bolt assemblies symmetrically;

7. During tightening, axially advance the flanged surfaces of both pipes to uniformly compress the O-rings on both sides. This achieves rigid contact and flexible sealing, ensuring joint integrity.
